The Michigan Journal of Arts and Science (MJAS) is a student-led publication affiliated with the University of Michigan that brings outstanding undergraduate writing into the public eye. Each year, students produce rigorous, thoughtful work in their courses and research projects, much of which is rarely shared beyond the classroom. MJAS exists to preserve and elevate these pieces by offering a platform where they can be read, engaged with, and valued beyond graduation.
In addition to publication, the journal emphasizes professional development. Contributors gain firsthand experience with the academic publishing process through guided mentorship, working closely with faculty and trained student editors from the Michigan Sweetland Writing Center. Through this model, MJAS supports the next generation of scholars, scientists, and writers while fostering a culture of thoughtful, accessible scholarship.
